{"id":2853,"date":"2011-01-24T14:18:22","date_gmt":"2011-01-24T22:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"tag:google.com,2005:reader\/item\/ba7c29fcd76d447a"},"modified":"2011-01-24T14:18:22","modified_gmt":"2011-01-24T22:18:22","slug":"the-dilbert-black-swan-portfolio-a-skepticalpractical-guide-to-investing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blackswanreport.com\/blog\/2011\/01\/the-dilbert-black-swan-portfolio-a-skepticalpractical-guide-to-investing\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dilbert Black Swan Portfolio: a skeptical\/practical guide to investing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m going with a <em>Black Swan<\/em> inspired <code>ETF<\/code> portfolio, where I put the portion of my money I\u2019m not prepared to lose (in this case, 55%) in a safe <code>ETF<\/code>, and the rest I spread over a bunch of opportunities with a high return potential, as follows:<\/p>\n<h4>55% Bonds (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?q=bnd\" title=\"Google Finance\">BND<\/a>)<\/h4>\n<p>This gives me a nice 3% per year and keeps me safe in case all the other stuff crashes.<\/p>\n<h4>15% <code>ARM<\/code> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?q=armh\" title=\"Google Finance\">ARMH<\/a>)<\/h4>\n<p>In case <code>ARM<\/code> turns out to be another black swan of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?q=aapl\" title=\"Google Finance\">AAPL<\/a> proportions.<\/p>\n<h4>15% Oil (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?q=DBO\" title=\"Google Finance\">DBO<\/a>)<\/h4>\n<p>In case I\u2019m right suspecting that peak oil will drive oil prices up. (Note that I used to reccommend a leveraged 2<code>X<\/code> fund here \u2013 changed thanks to feedback.)<\/p>\n<h4>15% Small-Cap Stocks (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?q=vb\" title=\"Google Finance\">VB<\/a>)<\/h4>\n<p>In case the stock market stays healthy and a bunch of the small companies make it big.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>These are my current choices, but keep in mind that, at least for the risky portion, <em>you should probably make your own<\/em>. Don\u2019t trust me, what do I know? For that matter, what does anyone know? Trust no one.
