As the evening winds down, I pick up my copy of Taleb\u2019s \u201d The Bed of Procrustes\u201d and slowly read at loud the aphorism: \u201cThe rationalist imagines an imbecile-free society; the empiricist an imbecile-proof one, or, even better, a rationalist-proof one\u201d (pg 71)<\/p>\n<p>Two minds come to my mind, the Rationalist who conjures theories and provides proofs based on assumptions, who draw maps and builds models, and the Empiricist\u00a0who wants to walk on the city streets\u00a0and see\u00a0the aesthetic architecture; smell\u00a0the smooth air of the surroundings; taste the delicacies, and\u00a0watch the girls; and see and be with nature and the\u00a0people who\u00a0prove the Rationalist wrong over and over again.<\/p>\n<p>The Rationalist, thinking himself very astute, builds the models of how the world should work. I trenchantly enter the chambers of his mind and he gives me an amiable\u00a0tour.\u2013Look\u2013he smirks\u2013I have maps of Japan, of England, of America, of the whole world, there is not one single\u00a0terrain which I haven\u2019t drawn a\u00a0map. \u2013But\u2013I respond\u2013Have you been there? Have you\u00a0stroll\u00a0through the dark\u00a0street in Tokyo? Have you walk at night through London\u2019s poet corner trying to find the\u00a0burial\u00a0ground of some long gone author?
